KuKirin G3 Pro Scooter Review: Is It A Game-Changer in Dual Motor Electric Scooters?

The Kukirin G3 Pro (or the Kugoo G3 Pro) has recently made some waves in the electric scooter market, promising a killer combo of power, range, and affordability that’s hard to argue with. With 2.4 kilowatts of total power, an 80-kilometer (50 mile) range, a top speed of 40 mph or 65 km/h, and yet a price tag of just £1200 at the time of writing, it’s no wonder this scooter is garnering attention.

But does it truly live up to the hype, and is it worth your money? Let’s delve into the details.

First Impressions of the Kugoo G3 Scooter

When you receive your Kukirin G3 Pro scooter, you will notice its weight (39.6 kg) so you might need some help for unboxing and assembly. The scooter comes with the user guide, a pump, a basic tool set, four hex screws and the charger. The assembly of the scooter is straightforward and very similar to other electric scooters. You need to mount the handlebar by using four hex screws, and this shouldn’t really take you any more than 10 minutes.

While you are assembling the scooter it’s a good idea to check for any possible damage that could have occurred during transport. If you are unlucky enough to have your scooter damaged in any way, take a photo of the damage at this point, as it will help you get a replacement if you need it.

Straight out of the box, the scooter looks sturdy and solidly put together with a definite off-road design which is clearly demonstrated in 10 inch pneumatic off-road tires, four arm shock absorbers and a substantially wide deck.

It’s worth noting that the dual motor set up is one of the main reasons why the scooter is heavy, this design brings a lot of advantages compared to electric scooters powered by only motor. The most obvious advantage is that this makes the scooter faster – it can accelerate up to an impressive 65 km/h or 40 mph there are other advantages here. Having dual motors distributes the load more evenly, which reduces the stress on each individual motor. This could potentially extend the scooter’s lifespan overall.

If you like gradual acceleration you might be a little disappointed here. The throttle is sensitive and this scooter accelerates very quickly which will of course suit adrenaline junkies and more experienced riders. There’s definitely instantaneous torque and exhilarating acceleration to be had here.

You also have the option of using single motor mode which can allow you to conserve power in one of the engines and slow the rate of acceleration somewhat.

Battery and Range

The scooter’s 52V, 23Ah removable battery is something of a highlight. Despite the fact that it’s not made with premium Samsung or LG cells, like say the comparable Kaabo Mantis King GT scooter, it offers the undeniable convenience of easy removal and replacement. This is especially useful if you want to safely store the battery away separately for a period of time.

The advertised 80 km range for the battery could be an issue for some users, especially if you are a heavier rider and riding on rough terrain for longer periods of time. We found that the Kukirin G3 Pro lasted for around 40 km (25 miles) on a single charge, albeit with a heavier rider, at high speeds and challenging off-road conditions. With a lighter rider going at more moderate speeds, and especially using the single motor mode you might get closer to 80 km but that’s definitely a best case scenario which many of us won’t or don’t want to have available.

Suspension and Braking

The suspension on the G3 Pro is another strong point in its favour and it really does offer a smooth ride even on rough terrain, absorbing shocks well for added peace of mind. The pneumatic rubber tires help with shock absorption also.  The fact that the scooter can handle gradients of up to 35° is impressive too.

The Kugoo G3 Pro is the first Kukirin scooter to have hydraulic brakes and they don’t disappoint. They provide good and reliable stopping power and they even have a power cut-off function as well. The brakes are quick and efficient which is crucial on an electric scooter that can handle these kinds of speeds as well as challenging terrains.

Additional Features and Usability

Here is a short list of some other notable features for the G3 Pro:

  • 11-grade lighting system
  • Turn signals
  • Cruise control
  • An informative LCD screen that can still be easily read in direct sunlight (this can be a problem with other electric scooters)
  • The P settings on the display allow for fine-tuning and advanced customisation

Downsides of the Kukirin G3 Pro Scooter

While the G3 Pro might impress in many areas, there are still some considerations before buying this scooter. For example the stem is not adjustable which could be an issue for either particular short riders or very tall riders.

It would also be helpful even the turn signals were audible, particularly if you are planning on using the scooter for any urban commuting.

Although the main screen is customisable and user friendly, it would also be nice to have a downloadable app to make the scooter more user friendly.

Conclusion

The Kukirin G3 Pro scooter stands out as a great option in the budget dual motor electric scooter category. It combines powerful performance, great build quality, and a suite of features that make it suitable for both commuting and off-road adventures galore. While there are definitely things to keep in mind that may not suit everyone, the Kukirin G3 Pro offers a compelling package, especially given its competitive price point.

Whether the scooter is a game-changer or not in dual motor electric scooters will come down to personal preference, but there’s a lot to like here.

If you’re in the market for a powerful yet affordable electric scooter, the Kukirin G3 Pro is definitely worth considering. Just make sure to gear up appropriately, as its high speeds can make for a thrilling but potentially hazardous ride.
