Let’s start by following the simple but essential troubleshooting steps to help diagnose whether you need expert help or not. While the following steps might seem obvious, you’d be surprised how often the basics are where the problem lies.
Basic Troubleshooting Steps
1 Checking the Charge
As obvious as it might seem the scooter needs to be charged (even for a little while) to turn on, and a surprising number of people who buy electric scooters aren’t completely unaware of how long it takes to charge them and the steps involved.
If your scooter is charging properly there should be a red light showing that it is in the process of charging. A green light signals that your Pure electric scooter is fully charged.
Make sure you plug the charger into the socket first before attaching it to your scooter. If the charger were to short circuit you only have to buy a new charger. If the scooter is also connected during a short circuit then you will have to buy a new scooter and a new charger! (unless your scooter is still under warranty)

2 Examine the Charger Itself
If your electric scooter charger doesn’t have a red light indicating it is charging properly, then the fault is most likely with the charger itself. If your charger is under warranty you will be able to get a working charger sent you for free. Otherwise you will mostly likely have to pay for a new charger from Pure themselves. It will cost you around £20 or so.
Pure Electric scooter not Turning on Red Light Not Visible
If your scooter has a red light when charging, this mean that it is in the process of charging but isn’t fully charged. When the light is green, this means that the scooter’s battery is fully charged.
If you can see no indication your charger is charging then the next step is to contact the Pure customer support team for a replacement.
3 Make Sure You are Powering On Correctly
A Pure scooter needs to be properly powered on to ensure it is working properly. Again this may seem like an obvious point, but you need to be aware that you need to hold the On/Off button for three seconds to properly turn on the scooter.
If you have made sure to properly charge the scooter up to the point of a green light and you have held the On/Off button for 3 seconds and you still can’t get the scooter to power on, then it means you are in a position to contact Pure customer services or a relevant expert confident in the knowledge that you have done all that you can to diagnose the problem. If you have reached this point and you still don’t have a scooter powering up, then there is most likely a less common and not so easily fixed issue which will require a greater degree of knowledge about electric scooter maintenance.
Section 2: When the Scooter Turns On But Won’t Accelerate
Understanding the Safety Feature
- Safety First: Explain the safety feature that requires the scooter to be at walking pace before it will accelerate, designed to prevent accidental activation.
- How to Start Moving: Provide clear instructions on how to correctly start the scooter, emphasizing the need for a firm push-off before activating the throttle.
Section 3: Seeking Expert Help
When Basic Troubleshooting Fails
Contacting Support: If all your attempts at basic troubleshooting have failed, then you will need to reach out to Pure’s customer support as the problem may be more complex to diagnose on your own. You will likely need your order number and a description of the problem – you can submit a request on the Pure Electric website or email help@pureelectric.com.
